Currently in his fourteenth year as the conductor of Bay Concert Band, David Kjellberg received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Northern Michigan University in 1958. He began his teaching career with the Ontonagon, Michigan, Public Schools and taught there for four years. |
While teaching in the Standish-Sterling Schools, David directed marching band, concert band, pep band and cadet band. His schedule also included junior high bands, elementary bands, high school choir and glee club. The SSC High School Concert Band participated yearly in Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District Festivals and advanced numerous times to the level of the State Festival, where they received Superior ratings for outstanding performances.
David has been an active member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and served as both district president and district treasurer. He represented MSBOA District 9 on the State Festival Improvements Committee for over 20 years and also served a term as chair of that committee.
Mr. Kjellberg performs on the tuba with various community groups throughout the greater Tri-City area and is a member of Midland Concert Band and the Northern Michigan Brass Band, as well as The German Connection, the Touch of Brass Quintet, the Bay Tones Swing Band, and the North Union Dixieland Ensemble.
